Application
In order to evaluate the defective mechanism of corrosion and migration, the product is evaluated under three conditions: 1) high temperature, 2) high humidity, and 3) power supply. However, migration tends to occur before corrosion, making it difficult to obtain corrosion tolerant data. Therefore, the test removes the third condition and intensively evaluates defective mechanisms of corrosion only under 1) high temperature and 2) high humidity conditions.

The test is called the Autoclave test or Pressure Cooker Test (PCT), and it evaluates whether the product can withstand high temperature and humidity. It is used especially for accelerating internal metal corrosion, such as product die metalization. Samples are typically tested for 168 hours under a temperature of 121°C, relative humidity of 100%, and atmospheric pressure of 2 atm. Intermediate measurements are conducted at 48h and 96h. Electrical leakage may occur due to the maximum humidity during the Autoclave test, but this leakage will not increase defective count unless otherwise defined as defective. Only corrosion or other permanent damage is defined as poor PCT.
